The Palo Alto Networks Certified Security Service Edge Engineer certification is designed for experienced SSE engineers who want to validate their skills in deploying, configuring, and managing Palo Alto Networks SSE solutions.
It covers the full scope of SSE engineering work, from pre-deployment planning and architecture through Prisma Access deployment, Prisma Browser configuration, administration, and troubleshooting. Candidates develop a thorough understanding of how SSE components work together to deliver secure access for users, applications, and remote networks.
This certification is particularly relevant for SSE engineers, Prisma Access engineers, security engineers, and network engineers responsible for deploying and managing enterprise SSE environments.
This certification is intended for professionals with experience in network security and SSE environments.
Candidates should have a working knowledge of networking fundamentals, TCP/IP, routing protocols, and network security architectures. Engineering-level knowledge of Prisma Access is expected, along with familiarity with security models such as Zero Trust and defense-in-depth.
Most candidates pursuing this certification have around three years of experience in network security roles, including one to two years of hands-on work with Palo Alto Networks Prisma Access solutions.
Relevant prior certifications include Palo Alto Networks Certified Cybersecurity Practitioner and Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Professional.
The certification focuses on five core engineering domains:
These modules reflect the responsibilities of engineers who deploy and manage Prisma Access and Prisma Browser environments across enterprise and distributed network infrastructures.
The Security Service Edge Engineer certification focuses on the technical skills required to deploy and manage Palo Alto Networks SSE solutions in enterprise environments.
Candidates learn how to configure and deploy Prisma Access architecture components, manage routing and traffic steering, and set up secure access for mobile users and remote networks. The certification also covers private application access using service connections, Colo-Connect, and ZTNA Connectors, as well as identity authentication using Cloud Identity Engine and standard protocols such as SAML and RADIUS.
Prisma Access services are another key area of focus. Candidates explore how to configure advanced features such as Remote Browser Isolation, IoT security, and privileged remote access, alongside data security services including SaaS Security, Enterprise DLP, and AI Access Security.
The certification also covers Prisma Browser deployment and policy configuration, along with Prisma Access administration using both Panorama and Strata Cloud Manager. Logging, reporting, compliance management, and release upgrade processes are included as well.
Troubleshooting is the final area of focus. Candidates learn how to diagnose and resolve connectivity issues across mobile users, remote networks, service connections, and ZTNA connectors, as well as traffic enforcement issues related to security policy, User-ID, and split tunneling configurations.
