Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM) Fundamentals

Strategic Portfolio Management Fundamentals is a three-day instructor-led course designed for professionals who use, implement, or advise on ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management applications.

The course introduces the full SPM application suite and covers how organizations can use it to align portfolio investments with strategic goals, make value-oriented decisions, and adapt continuously to changing business conditions. Through lectures, group discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on labs, participants work in their own student instance alongside a fictitious company scenario to apply SPM principles across the full portfolio lifecycle.

The following prerequisites are mandatory. This course does not cover general ServiceNow platform basics, so a solid foundation in the platform is required before attending:

• ServiceNow Administration Fundamentals (instructor-led or on demand)

Note: This course focuses exclusively on Strategic Portfolio Management topics. It does not cover general ServiceNow AI Platform basics. If you’re new to ServiceNow, we recommend you start with Welcome to ServiceNow course.

ServiceNow recommends completing both the SPM Fundamentals and SPM Implementation courses and gaining at least six months of hands-on experience before attempting the certification exam.

#1. What experience do I need before taking this course? 

Learners must complete Welcome to ServiceNow and ServiceNow Administration Fundamentals before attending. This course does not cover general ServiceNow platform basics, so a solid foundation in the platform is required from the start.

#2. What project management methodologies are covered in this course? 

The course covers Waterfall, Agile, and Hybrid project types, as well as Collaborative Work Management for agile teams.

#3. Will I get hands-on practice during the course? 

Yes. The course includes extensive hands-on labs in a personal student instance throughout all three days, following a fictitious company scenario that applies SPM concepts to real-world situations.

#4. Does this course lead to a certification? 

This course supports preparation for the ServiceNow SPM certification exam. ServiceNow recommends completing both the SPM Fundamentals and SPM Implementation courses and gaining at least six months of hands-on experience before attempting the exam.
