If your organization uses ServiceNow Customer Service Management (CSM), there’s a good chance an implementation partner helped configure it. Your administrators may now have to maintain the system, even if they weren’t involved in setting it up.
Experience with IT service management helps, but CSM works differently. Cases connect to customer accounts and the products they own, along with the support each customer is entitled to. These relationships also determine which cases and information customers can access.
When a customer can’t see their cases on the portal, those responsible for CSM need to know where to investigate. Without that knowledge, even a routine request could mean calling the implementation partner for help.
They also need to keep up with new CSM capabilities. ServiceNow’s Australia release brought multi-step agentic workflows into the CSM workspace. If your employees are starting to use these workflows, there’s another thing to check: does the training cover them?
Course pages may list similar topics and labs, but they don’t tell you how clearly the instructor explains each configuration. They also don’t show how much time learners get to troubleshoot problems themselves. You should also consider whether the course prepares your employees for the responsibilities they’ll take on afterward.
A few direct questions can help you decide whether the training is right for your employees before you register. This guide explains what to look for in a ServiceNow Customer Service Management training partner and how Datacipher approaches each factor, so you can make an informed choice.
5 Things to Check Before Choosing a ServiceNow Customer Service Management Training Partner
Before registering for CSM training, you’ll want to know what your employees will get from it. These five factors help you look beyond the course outline and check whether the partner can prepare your administrators for the work they handle every day.
1. Are They Authorized to Deliver ServiceNow CSM Training?
Two providers may advertise similar CSM courses, but that doesn’t mean they offer the same training. You’ll want to know whether your employees will receive official ServiceNow training or a course the provider has developed itself.
ServiceNow delivers training directly and through Authorized Training Partners. A company may have experience implementing ServiceNow, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s authorized to deliver official training. You need to ask the provider to confirm its authorization before enrolling your employees.
You’ll also want to know which course materials your team will receive and which ServiceNow release the lessons and labs cover. If your employees use newer CSM features, the provider should explain whether those are included or covered in separate training. This helps you determine whether the training reflects the CSM environment you actually use.
| Question to ask: Are you authorized to deliver ServiceNow CSM training, and is your course content up to date? |
2. Does the Course Match Your Team’s Experience and Responsibilities?
Your ServiceNow administrators may have different starting points. Some already work with CSM, while others know the platform through IT service management. However, enrolling everyone in the same course doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll get the training they need.
Start with the work they’ll handle afterward. Will they maintain an existing CSM setup, or help configure it for a new rollout? The provider should be able to show how its recommended course prepares participants for these responsibilities.
The partner also needs to understand what participants already know. Someone may use ServiceNow every day without having worked on its administration settings. If the course assumes that knowledge, they could struggle to follow parts of the training.
Share your employees’ experience and responsibilities so the provider can recommend a suitable course. By the end of the discussion, you should know which course is right for your company and whether they need any training beforehand.
| Question to ask: Which CSM course would you recommend, and what should they know before attending? |

3. Can They Offer Training That Fits Your Schedules?
Your ServiceNow administrators will need to balance their regular responsibilities with the time they spend in training. Before settling on dates, you’ll need to work out who can attend together and who will keep the day-to-day work covered.
Live online classes can make attendance easier when your employees work across different offices. The session hours still matter, though. Attending late-night sessions can make it harder to stay focused during lessons and lab exercises, even when there’s no travel involved.
If you’d prefer everyone to learn in the same room, you can ask whether the provider offers classroom or on-site delivery. For a larger group, a private class may give you more choice over dates and session times.
Before registering, you should confirm the complete schedule, including breaks and time allocated to lab exercises. Participants should be able to attend the whole course without regularly stepping away to deal with other work.
| Question to ask: Can you offer this CSM course in a format and schedule that work for our employees? |
4. Can the Instructor Explain CSM Clearly?
When an administrator asks why a customer can see one case but not another, the instructor needs to do more than point to a setting. They should explain how access is determined and show how changing that setting affects what the customer sees.
The instructor should explain other CSM concepts just as clearly. This helps you understand why they’re making certain choices and apply what they’ve learned when working with your organization’s own setup.
Some participants will already work with CSM, while others may be seeing these settings for the first time. The instructor should leave time for questions and be willing to use another example when participants struggle to understand a concept.
Before booking, you need to ask who will teach the course and how they help participants work through unfamiliar topics. It’s useful to hear how they would explain a CSM problem your employees recognize.
| Question to ask: How do you explain CSM concepts with different levels of experience? |
5. Do the Labs Give Administrators Time to Work Through Problems?
Even when a course includes hands-on labs, participants may spend most of their time following predefined instructions. This helps them learn where different settings are, but will they know what to do when something doesn’t work as expected back on the job?
For CSM training, you need to look beyond the number of labs and ask what administrators will actually do in each exercise. Will they configure customer records and test case access? Will they have a chance to investigate why a customer can’t see a case, rather than simply follow the steps for setting it up?
The instructor’s support matters here, too. When someone gets stuck, explaining what to check and why helps them work toward an answer. Giving them the correct setting straight away may help them finish the exercise, but it won’t teach them how to figure out what went wrong.
Before booking, find out how much time participants get to complete the exercises and review anything they couldn’t resolve. This gives them a chance to connect the lab exercises to problems they may encounter in your own CSM setup.
| Question to ask: What will our employees practice in your labs, and how do you help them when something doesn’t work? |
Once you’ve checked these five areas, you’ll have a clearer idea of what to expect from a training partner. Here’s how we approach these requirements at Datacipher.
What Customer Service Management Training Looks Like at Datacipher
At Datacipher, we start by understanding what your employees need to learn and how they’ll use that knowledge at work. We then help you choose the right course and schedule it around their regular responsibilities.

Here’s what that means for your organization.
1. Authorized CSM Training With Official ServiceNow Materials
When you book CSM training with us, your employees learn from ServiceNow’s official curriculum and course materials. We’re an authorized training partner in India, and you can verify our partner listing on ServiceNow’s website.

The official curriculum helps participants understand how different parts of CSM work together. Customer records, case processes, and access settings are closely connected, so understanding one without the others can leave gaps in their knowledge. The course covers these topics together, so participants can see how a change in one area can affect another.
The training follows ServiceNow’s learning objectives rather than a set of topics chosen independently by the provider. Participants also work through the explanations and exercises included in ServiceNow’s official course materials.
Before you register, we’ll walk you through the course content, the exercises, and any knowledge participants should have beforehand. We’ll also confirm which ServiceNow release the course covers and whether it includes the CSM features your administrators need to learn.
2. CSM Courses for Different Stages of Your Administrators’ Work
An administrator who’s new to CSM first needs to understand its features and configuration options. Someone preparing for an implementation needs to know how to apply that knowledge. We offer both courses, so you can choose one based on what your employees already know and what they’ll be responsible for next.
| Course | What Participants Learn |
| Customer Service Management (CSM) Essentials | Core CSM configuration and administration, including customer records, case management, workspace settings, and work assignment. |
| Customer Service Management (CSM) Implementation Workshop | Applying existing CSM knowledge to an implementation scenario. Participants research solutions, configure them, and explain their decisions to the class. |
Both courses run for three days, but the learning experience is quite different. Essentials combines explanations with guided exercises. The workshop, on the other hand, assumes participants already know CSM and can work through implementation requirements without step-by-step guidance.
If you’re unsure which course is right for your employees, we can discuss their experience and what they’ll be handling at work. We’ll also explain the prerequisites so everyone knows what they need to learn before attending.
3. CSM Training Delivered at Your Office
Where your employees work helps determine how we deliver training. Across our courses, we offer classroom sessions, live online classes, and on-site delivery. For ServiceNow CSM, our instructors travel to your office in India.
This saves them from having to travel to attend training. You can also have everyone who works with your CSM environment attend the same class and learn together.
Having everyone in the same class also makes it easier to discuss problems that involve different responsibilities. For example, if one participant asks how customer records affect case access, colleagues who manage those records can join the discussion. The instructor can then explain how the issue affects each person’s work and how the different parts of CSM work together.
We’ll discuss dates and session timings with you before scheduling the training. This gives you time to arrange coverage for routine requests, so participants can focus on the lessons and labs.
4. Instructors Who Take Time to Explain the Why
Our instructors explain what a setting does before asking participants to use it. Knowing where to click is useful during an exercise, but understanding why they’re making a change helps when they return to their own CSM setup.
In one CSM class, a participant asked why a customer’s support entitlement was separate from their account record. The instructor used a gym membership analogy to explain the difference. A person’s record tells the gym who they are, while their membership determines which facilities they can use. Similarly, a customer account identifies an organization, while its entitlement determines what support the organization can access.
The instructor then demonstrated how an entitlement connects to a customer’s records in the training environment. Participants could follow along on screen and ask questions about the example they were working on.
Some participants needed more time to understand customer records, while others had questions about support coverage. The instructor took time to answer both sets of questions before moving on, making sure everyone understood the setup rather than simply following the steps.
One participant described a session as follows:

5. Hands-On Labs That Help Administrators Solve CSM Problems
Our Customer Service Management courses let participants practice in a training environment without affecting your live system. They work with customer records, configure case settings, and check whether their changes produce the expected results.
In one CSM lab, participants investigated an issue with a customer portal. The customer could sign in, but couldn’t see a case associated with their company.
The instructor asked participants to check which account the customer’s contact record was linked to. They found that it was linked to the wrong account. After linking the contact record to the correct account, they signed in as the customer again to see if the case appeared.
Rather than simply giving participants the answer, the instructor helped them follow the records and find the cause. The class then discussed why the customer could sign in but still couldn’t see the case. They could see that being able to sign in doesn’t necessarily mean a customer can access every case associated with their company.
Choosing a ServiceNow CSM Training Partner for Your Organization
After training, your administrators should be better prepared to manage CSM, investigate problems, and understand the changes they make. Choosing the right course starts with what they already know and what they’ll need to handle at work.
If you’re arranging CSM training, email us at training@datacipher.net or fill out the form on either CSM course page. Tell us about their experience, what they’ll be handling at work, and your preferred dates. We’ll help you find the right course and arrange on-site training at your office in India.
